The best bets for Saturday racing from the Trackside team!
Cam Luke
RANDWICK
Race 3 | 2. Firm Agreement
Should probably have won the Tulloch and was brilliant in the Derby behind a star!! Will need a little speed dropping back to 2000m but has the chance to sit closer from the nice draw. Won’t do much work in the run either way. Good track is no dramas but to be fair neither is rain affected . I am lot more comfy him coming back to 2000m than I am the odds on pop getting back to it! Falcon might be the classiest horse but will be behind Firm Agreement and if they go quick he is no chance to out tough him late at 2000m.
Race 4 | 1. Clean Energy
Forgive last start when zero luck! Gets first time to 1400m that won’t be an issue and she has led before so from that gate can control the race. Staying soft would be too her advantage as well but no concern on firmer deck.
Race 7 | 1. State Visit
Was pretty good albeit with every chance in the Sires but did look like the 1600m will suit his style. The gate is a slight concern but in J Mac we trust. Can get on the back of Nepotism who are both needing a smidge of luck. There is a little speed on the race (Lady Pankhurst & Spicy Lu) so both those jockeys might take a risk and squeeze early and hope they slide in midfield. Tupakara will have run of the race and be strong late and Buffalo was huge on the Sires and will be flying late but will need some luck to get clear running to wind up! Great race but I am with State Visit.
Race 8 | 7. Sunshine In Paris (each-way)
Will get spat out the back from that gate but she is over the odds! Was a bit flat late in the TJ but her second up form isn’t great and she was back from 1300m so getting to the 1400m works in her favour. Deeper into her prep always works for her and if the track plays faster it will help her. This race is full of talent and Briasa deserves fave and speed maps perfectly but the 1400m is a question until he does it. Broadsiding is a star and I love him but 2000m back to 1400m is extraordinary in G1 racing but trainer is a star but I’ll stick with the girl to run a huge race over the odds!
MORNINGTON
Race 6 | 1. Vestas
Was on the wrong part of the Flemington straight so forget resuming run. She has a huge amount of talent and without much speed in race can expect her to be 1 out 1 back! Good track to her liking and although first time to 1200m she looks like she will enjoy it!!! BELTS THEM.
Race 8 | 5. Young Werther
These are the races he run well in. Won’t go around a horse and will be on speed making own luck. He had to work hard early to be on speed in Australia Cup and this is a lot easier. 2400m not a major issue and the good firm deck is his jam! Berkshire Breeze deserves fav after running great in the Higgins.
Race 10 | 2. Prancing Spirit
Should have won last start at Caulfield and absolutely will be given a peach from Dan Stackhouse from that gate. Can lead or sit 1-1 and the good dry deck is perfect for him. Will peel off leaders back (or kick away if leading) and they won’t catch him. 1 out in the QUADDIE!
David Taggart
RANDWICK
Race 4 | 1. Clean Energy
Steps up to 1400m and she draws soft. Hasn’t got Ryan Moore to break her jaw like last time to get cover and she’s back into soft ground which is in her favour. Will either lead or sit off Lilac.
MORNINGTON
Race 6 | 1. Vestas
Has a ton of ability and just forget she went around Flemington as she was on the wrong part of the straight. Draws well and she’s back to her own age and sex.
Race 9 | 4. War Machine
Resumes and is ready to go. Will get every chance from pole where he will do no work and get last crack at them. He’s beaten handy horses in the past and should have these covered.
