SEN celebrates 10 seasons of AFLW launch of new show
Sports Entertainment Network (SEN) is pleased to announce the launch of AFLW Arena, a new program launching just in time to celebrate the 10th edition of the AFLW season.
Running from tonight, Tuesday 22 July, through until early December, AFLW Arena will be co-hosted by Rana Hussain and Ellie Blackburn, and supported by Executive Producer, Jacqueline Shields.
AFLW Arena will provide a platform for game analysis, previews, reviews and hot topics in women’s footy with interviews featuring AFLW coaches, players, high performance staff, umpires and fans, however, with a revolutionary point-of-difference being also having a lens on health and wellbeing and the broader experience of being a woman in sport, covering topics of pregnancy, women’s health and return to play.
Blackburn is a force to be reckoned with in AFLW circles - a mid-fielder-forward with the Western Bulldogs, she is a three-time AFLW All-Australian and five-time Club Champion, captaining the side to its first AFLW Premiership in 2018, and serving as its standalone skipper for five seasons (2020-2023). As the club’s AFLW games record holder, in July Blackburn was also recognised as one of the 25 Greatest Bulldogs of the last 100 years.
Joining Blackburn on the mic, Hussain is a trailblazer for inclusion and an advocate for women in sport through her work with the Richmond Football Club, Collingwood Football Club, Cricket Australia, Basketball Australia and the Australian Sports Commission. Hussain is also the Founder and CEO of Good. Human, a consultancy dedicated to shaping workplaces, teams and communities where people feel they truly belong.
Joining the on-air team, the program’s Executive Producer, Shields, continues to advance the coverage of women in sport media on SEN, off the back of producing The Performance Hour, which focused on sport science with a lens on women in sport.
SEN’s Group Radio Director, Sam Thompson, said the network was proud that the new program would put the spotlight on a range of issues important to women in sport.
“AFLW Arena is a celebration of the evolution of women’s footy and the incredible people driving it forward. With Rana, Ellie, and Jacqueline leading the charge, we’re proud to offer a program that not only informs and entertains but also empowers and inspires.”
AFLW Arena can be heard every Tuesday from 8 to 9pm AEDT thanks to our partner, No. 1 Fertility. The program will be broadcast nationally on SEN, and will also be heard live and on-demand on the SEN app.
