Why Turbo is 'honoured' to be Sea Eagles' new captain
Tom Trbojevic has been named captain of the Manly Sea Eagles in 2026, succeeding Daly Cherry-Evans.
The Sea Eagles announced Trbojevic would skipper the side, having played 170 games for the club over his career.
A local junior, ‘Turbo’ extended his time with the club back in October, adding one season on to the end of his deal to remain at the club until the end of 2027, ending rumours he was looking at a move to the Super League.
Trbojevic said he was proud to lead the club moving forward.
“This means a lot to me, and I’m thrilled to take on the captaincy,” Trbojevic said.
“It’s a privilege and I feel very honoured to take on the role. It’s a proud moment.
“The next few months of pre-season will be tough but it’s an exciting time for all of us as we prepare for the new season.”
Other options for the role included Jake Trbojevic and Haumole Olakau'atu.
Previous captain Daly Cherry-Evans had held the role since 2017 and holds the record for most games as captain in club history.
Coach Anthony Seibold explained the decision to appoint Trbojevic.
“Tom leads through his actions on and off the field,” Seibold said.
“On the field he is an elite player who has a big influence on team performance.
“Off the field, not only is he highly respected by his teammates but he is a highly regarded member of the Northern Beaches community.
“I know he’ll do a great job as captain.”
Trbojevic’s first game as captain will be Round 1 at 4 Pines Park against the Canberra Raiders.
