Saturday best bets from Luke & Taggart (16/08)
Cam Luke & David Taggart have your Saturday sorted on Trackside.
The lads have taken a close look at Caulfield & Rosehill in a bid to find the family some winners.
See their best bets below:👇
Cam Luke
MOONEE VALLEY
Race 2 | 12. Federer
I am going again but no doubt he should have won last start! Back to 1800m doesn’t thrill me but there is plenty of speed (Makdane) which helps. Blinkers on so might show a little intent as well from the star jockey. He will be wide and will have a clear run so I’m giving him one last chance. Fav (Skippers Canyon) was huge on Australian debut and will be back but again the speed will help him and he is the obvious danger.
Race 7 | 8. Royal Insignia
Had no luck last two starts one of which was G1. He has jumped out well and clearly will be ready to go first up. Drawn perfectly to sit closer on a pace that should have some tempo which I think helps him as well. A drying track wouldn’t hurt and fresh over 1200m works for a jockey/trainer combo who are flying!
Race 8 | 6. Evaporate
Going forward he is the best horse. Has trialled up enormous and looks to have improved now into a 4yo. Bia last prep was fill of merit and his two Caulfield 1400m were huge!! Is drawn perfect to take the sit behind stable mate Here To Shock. Speed won’t be frenetic and he will be in front of Private Eye and I think that will be the difference.
Caulfield 'More Places' Multi
Race 1 | 11. Verdoux (top three)
Has won second up before, stays 1100m which helps as he will need to go forward. Needs a smidge of luck from gate but can win.
Race 2 | 12. Federer (top three)
See above.
Race 3 | 11. Riverina Power (top five)
Was good last start and back to 1400m which is her distance.. Drawn perfect to be a bit closer than normal.
Race 4 | 12. Castle On High (top five)
In great form under Brown and drawn perfect. Toe into ground helps and tougher race but been doing everything right.
Race 5 | 1. Tycoon Star (top three)
Finally draws a Caulfield gate. Huge in the Blue Diamond. Lovely jump outs and should run well!
Race 6 | 3. Scenic Point (top three)
Love her, don’t love the gate. Drying track helps. Playing conservative in case no luck.
Race 7 | 8. Royal Insignia (top three)
See above.
Race 8 | 6. Evaporate (top two)
See above.
Race 9 | 11. Revelare (top three)
Has won second up before, stays 1100m which helps as he will need to go forward. Needs a smidge of luck from gate but can win.
ROSEHILL
Race 5 | 1. Skyhook
Won the Pago and forget the Slipper as didn’t handle the seven day back up. A drying track is another tick and smallish fields normally mean best horse gets every chance! Has to concede a bunch of weight to the fav but this horse is a serious animal and will show it back at the races.
Race 7 | 7. War Eternal
Was good last start but hit a little flat spot again showing he needs the 1400m third up. Drawn lovely for a great run in transit and even though this is tougher, there is no weight on the back. Has won third up before there is no greater sweet spot in the race than this bloke and 1400m. Wins!
Race 10 | 10. Bunker Hut
Was huge first up wide and stays at 1200m which is a plus. Heavy track he loves and normally runs well second up but has had a freshen so that’s a little skewed here. This is tougher but he will have a lovely speed map and the nice trial last week will have him fit enough to be in the finish.
Rosehill 'More Places' Multi
Race 1 | 10. Monkhana (top three)
Was great first up, needs 1500m. No weight and perfect draw.
Race 2 | 6. Adolphus (top six)
Flies fresh, drawn nicely, trialled well, handles soft and jockey flying.
Race 3 | 3. Karinska (top four)
Was good in great races last prep, trialled well, drying track a positive.
Race 4 | 8. Tulleries (top two)
Sticky gate but was decent first up from gate. Class girl!
Race 5 | 1. Skyhook (top two)
See above.
Race 6 | 14. Amusing (top three)
In great form and seems like the 1900m is next step. Wet track perfect as is J Mac!
Race 7 | 7. War Eternal (top two)
See above.
Race 8 | 5. Puntin (top three)
Back to 1400m key! Drying track helps and if can cross, can win!
Race 9 | 3. Ravenclaw (top five)
Stays at 1100m, drawn best of fancies, loves it wet and has won second up.
Race 10 | 10. Bunker Hut (top three)
Decent first up when no luck. Stays at 1200m, loves it wet and drawn to stalk speed.

David Taggart
CAULFIELD
Race 1 | 13. From The Block
Is absolutely flying winning his last three since arriving from Hong Kong. Looks to be a case of wetter the better for this galloper and from an inside gate can lead all the way.
Race 4 | 6. Mathletic (value)
Joins the Hayes boys for his first up run. He wasn’t bad last prep against some handy gallopers and with rain about he comes right into this at good odds. Both his wins in France were over this trip on soft tracks, draws good and I think he’s a great each-way play.
Race 5 | 1. Tycoon Star
Resumes and he has looked very good at the trials. Contested the best 2yo races in the Autumn and if he runs up to his diamond run he should be winning.Race 8 | 6. Evaporate
Resumes and I’m a big fan of this galloper. Has looked to of comeback in great order off his trials and he is ready to go. Is yet to win first up but hopefully that changes here with conditions suiting him and he should get every chance from a good draw.
ROSEHILL
Race 6 | 2. Travolta
Was way too good for them last start and he stays in the same grade and after Siena Grima’s claim comes in half a kilo lighter than when he won and a kilo better than the one he beat in No.11 Pure Alpha. Conditions suit draws soft and can win again.
Race 8 | 10. Captain Furai
Is a genuine wet tracker who hits this second up. Did start fav first up only to knock up late. Stays at the 1400m, strips fitter and is the one to beat.
