"Quite remarkable": McCullough reacts to Shibasaki's Kangaroos' selection

Andrew McCullough has been seriously impressed by the season that Gehamat Shibasaki has had with Brisbane, which has now seen him earn selection into the Australian Kangaroos.
It has been a whirlwind 12 months for the Broncos winger, who wasn’t even on an NRL list at the start of the year after leaving South Sydney last year, where he played just one game.
But after signing a train and trial deal with Brisbane before the season started, the 27-year-old who mainly featured in the centres, has made the most of his opportunity back in the NRL.
During the season, he played 25 games for Brisbane, which saw him score 18 tries and run for 3,881 metres (155m per game).
That included his performance in the grand final where he managed to run for just under 200 metres and scored a double to see the Broncos win their first NRL Premiership in 19 years.
Following this career-best season, Shibasaki has now been named into the 24-man squad for the Kangaroos’ tour to England, which McCullough found remarkable considering where he has come from.
“Gehamat Shibasaki, boy oh boy,” McCullough said on SEN 1170’s Mornings.
“A guy on 1200 bucks a week, trained and trialled to now be a grand final winner, State of Origin (squad) and now Australia is quite remarkable.”
The three-match test series against England will get underway on October 25 (October 26 in Australia) at Wembley Stadium.
The Rugby Ashes will then head north up to Liverpool to play in Everton’s new stadium before concluding in Leeds at Headingley on November 8 (November 9 in Aus).
