Brisbane premiership player Brandon Starcevich is seriously weighing up whether to leave the Lions in free agency according to AFL Media’s Cal Twomey.
While Starcevich has both long and short term offers in front of him in Queensland, Twomey says the East Perth product is contemplating a move as he meets with rival clubs.
The free agent comes out of contract this year and given his restricted status, the Lions can match any bid from a rival club if they choose to keep the 25-year-old.
“Right here right now, there’s a free agent seriously contemplating his future which is going under the radar,” Twomey told AFL.com.au's Gettable.
“Brandon Starcevich’s contract call is an intriguing one for me, one of the more intriguing ones in the competition.
“Brisbane have had long and short-term offers in front of him for months and they continue to do that, but Starcevich is going through the process, meeting clubs and thinking hard about what it would be to leave Brisbane.”
Having played 122 games primarily in defence, Twomey says part of the reason why Starcevich is having his head turned is the lure of midfield minutes.
He named Essendon as a club that’s trying to lure the Lion down to Melbourne while the Kangaroos are also showing interest after missing out on the likes of Brayden Maynard who re-signed with Collingwood.
“Like I’ve said before, playing up the ground in midfield roles is part of the appeal and where a club can suit that role,” Twomey said.
“Essendon we know are in that race.
“North Melbourne has had a look as well, they’ve been keen on Brayden Maynard and Wayne Milera, that halfback role, but I don’t think they end up going down that route as much with Starcevich.
“So he’s got a big call to make and I don’t think we’re talking about it.
“But it’s happening at the moment, so he’s thinking about that very strongly.”
Starcevich has recently returned for the Lions after going down with concussion that forced him to miss multiple months earlier this season.
