Premiership Lion names his “big riser” team for season 2025

Dayne Zorko is acutely aware just how competitive the AFL is as we enter the 2025 season.
The Brisbane Lions veteran, who was a key part of the club’s 2024 premiership, says there is no shortage of flag contenders ahead of the new campaign.
While Zorko is expecting 2023 premiers Collingwood to bounce back and believes last year’s Preliminary Finalists GWS will again figure, he feels that Fremantle will rise in 2025.
The Dockers finished 10th last year but many are expecting Justin Longmuir’s side to bounce this season, including Zorko.
“There’s windows everywhere,” Zorko said on SENQ Breakfast.
“The competition’s getting tighter and tighter every single season. We showed that last year (winning from fifth).
“I genuinely believe there’s about eight or nine really solid premiership contenders and there could even be more to be honest.
“On your day, if you’re performing the way you know you can and you have a lot of trust and belief in your game plan I think anyone can beat anyone, which is great about our competition.
“It’s hard to say who is going to win or what, other than us, but I certainly think Collingwood and GWS.
“I think Fremantle is going to be a really big riser this year, I really like the way they’ve recruited in the off-season. They’ve added a lot more depth to their squad. I think they’ll win plenty of games at home and they’ll be able to take that form to away games as well.
“I think we’ll see a really tight competition again and hopefully we come out on top again.”
The Lions are the pre-season favourites to go back-to-back with most bookmakers at around $7 while the Dockers are rated at around the $11-$12 mark.
Brisbane’s premiership defence begins in Opening Round against Geelong at the Gabba on March 6. Freo’s 2025 season also starts against the Cats but in Round 1 at GMHBA Stadium on March 15.
