Premiership defender progressing talks to remain a Magpie

Talks are progressing on a new deal that would keep Brayden Maynard at Collingwood.
Discussions between Pies list boss Justin Leppitsch and Maynard’s manager Tom Petroro have picked up in recent weeks.
Maynard, 28, is out of contract and an unrestricted free agent at season’s end.
The rugged defender is being courted by North Melbourne with a highly lucrative, long-term, multi-million dollar proposal.
It’s an offer Collingwood can’t compete with.
But the escalation of talks between the Magpies and Maynard’s management are – as things stand - a positive sign for Collingwood that they can retain the backman.
Maynard will undoubtedly be taking less to stay in a Collingwood side in premiership contention and boasting recent big-money additions Dan Houston and Harry Perryman.
A premiership player in 2023 and an All-Australian in 2022, he would offer significant leadership and experience to a rebuilding North Melbourne, but also to a Pies side that will lose Scott Pendlebury, Steele Sidebottom and Jamie Elliott in the coming years.
Maynard, who has been battling a foot concern, is being rested for the clash with Fremantle.
