“Arsenal will win it”: PL legend tips old club to reign supreme

Arsenal legend and FA-Cup winning champion Theo Walcott has declared his old club Arsenal as the Premier League champion-elect.
It might have been a story he had foreseen at the 40-minute mark of a tense contest between Arsenal and Everton at the Emirates when speaking to SEN on Sunday morning.
Walcott was in the midst of the Stan Sports Official Watch Party in front of a packed Hickens Hotel when he declared his prediction.
“I think Arsenal win it,” Walcott said.
“I think Manchester City will drop points, I really do. I think Arsenal will drop points too (in the run-in).
“Essentially, it was all about finishing above City, Liverpool and that means you win the league this season – that was the job.
“Arsenal have only lost three games for the season and they’re doing better than anyone else, so I feel they are going to win it, but it’s going to be tight.”
Walcott said he believes the criticism around Arsenal’s style and form is centred around not having won the league for 22 years.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has copped the brunt of heavy opinions with regards to how his team approach set pieces, time management in-game and his iteration of Arsenal not being able to get over the line in three title challenges during his seven seasons in charge.
“It’s all about getting the job done,” Walcott implied.
“You want to score the best goals, but, at times, you have to mix it up.
“If you can’t defend it (set pieces) then that is on you. Arsenal go out there to do their job and, at the moment, they do it better than anyone else.
“It’s all about results at this stage of the season and, to be fair, no one will really remember how you play, especially if your name is on that Premier League trophy at the end of the season.”
What would follow was another almighty leap towards Premier League glory for Arsenal.
Everton, another former club of Walcott, dug in for the fight and were giving Manchester City a glimmer of familiar hope to chase down Arsenal in yet another title race.
However, enter 16-year-old wonderkid Max Dowman who provided the wicked cross which led to the 0-0 deadlock being broken thanks to a Viktor Gyokeres tap-in as 89 minutes ticked by.
Dowman would then go on to complete Arsenal’s victory.
With Everton pushing for a late equalizer from a corner, goalkeeper Jordan Pickford was sent up from his goal.
Arsenal eventually cleared, the ball would fall to Dowman who slalomed his way around two Everton defenders to effectively run and pass the ball into an open goal.
Two goals, ironically, from open play to swing the pendulum Arsenal’s way before City faced West Ham United.
Three hours later, City manager Pep Guardiola, who is currently serving a touchline ban, could only watch on in frustration from the grandstands of London Stadium.
Guardiola’s men bombarded West Ham United’s 18-yard box for the majority of the 90 minutes, but the match would finish as a 1-1 parity.
It would ultimately see City drop more points just as Walcott predicted.
Arsenal’s lead atop of the table now stands at nine points with seven games on their PL fixture list remaining.
Despite having played an extra match over City, the infamous OPTA Supercomputer now rates Arsenal a 97.6% chance of winning the Premier League for 2025-26.
