“Positive step”: Ugle-Hagan checks himself into health retreat
Troubled Western Bulldogs forward Jamarra Ugle-Hagan has reportedly checked himself into a health retreat.
According to the Herald Sun, the 23-year-old has headed north in a bid to save his football career.
Ugle-Hagan is on indefinite leave from the Bulldogs right now.
SEN’s Sam Edmund believes it’s a major positive for Ugle-Hagan and his situation.
“What’s that old saying? Often it gets darkest before the dawn,” Edmund said on SEN Afternoons.
“I’m no expert in this space, but I would have thought something like this is a positive step because it means that Jamarra is seeking the help he needs.
“He is taking an active decision to get himself right, get himself better and get himself available to returning to his profession.

“Hopefully that’s the way it plays out. There’s no timeline given to this. The Herald Sun simply reporting that ‘the Dogs and league officials are adamant Ugle-Hagan needs to prioritise his health before he can return to the club’.
“There are a number of health parameters that the AFL has now put in place before Jamarra Ugle-Hagan is granted a path back to the game and back to the Western Bulldogs.
“That all appears a long way down the track, but you would have thought if he’s taken an option and a choice such as this that there would be some renewed optimism that he can turn the corner.
“Hopefully this latest step is a sign that he can reignite his stalled career which went off the rails over summer.”
