Port Adelaide midfielder responds to Houston handshake criticism

Port Adelaide’s Willem Drew does not believe shaking a former teammate’s hand is a major issue.
Power players were criticised for exchanging pleasantries with their old mate Dan Houston after they had just lost to Collingwood by 91 points at the MCG on Saturday night.
But midfielder Drew doesn’t see anything wrong with saying g’day and briefly reconnecting with a person that spent almost a decade at his first club before joining the Magpies last trade period.
“Dan had been at this footy club for about nine years,” Drew said on SEN SA Breakfast.
“He obviously made a lot of great friendships and relationships. After a game if that’s just shaking someone’s hand, I don’t think that’s a major issue.
“That’s probably just the day that we live in.”
After a tumultuous few days in the wake of the Pies smashing, the Power are focusing on a swift recoil against Richmond this weekend.
Drew insists last weekend’s performance is not what Port is about and he expects a quick bounce-back at home.
“Obviously an extremely disappointing result on the weekend,” Drew added.
“It’s something that we’re pretty embarrassed by, the performance that we dished up.
“We reviewed that game pretty hard. It was Round 1 but the performance that we dished up was not something that we stand for as a club.
“Us as the players and the coaches own that. The good thing now is that we can move on. We’ve got another game this week, coming up against Richmond who are a young side and just want to play footy.
“For us it’s about bouncing back and showing what we’ve got.”
The Power host the Tigers at the Adelaide Oval from 4:15pm AEDT on Saturday.
