SEN’s Corey Parker has launched a scathing critique of Sydney Roosters enforcer Spencer Leniu following his involvement in a fracas against the Dolphins on Saturday night.
After just nine minutes into the clash, Leniu squared up towards Dolphins forward Aublix Tawha and had his fists raised, seemingly prepared for a fight. The actions from Leniu ignited an all-in brawl which resulted in both sides having two players sent to the sin bin.
Leniu and Roosters teammate Naufahu Whyte were given their marching orders from referee Gerard Sutton whilst Tawha and Dolphins forward Francis Molo were also given a 10-minute spell.
The Roosters dominated the contest and ran out 64-12 winners but Parker believes the Dolphins were unfairly hit with penalties when Leniu and the Roosters were the instigators.
“The poor old Dolphins,” Parker said on SENQ Breakfast.
“Francis Molo, Tawha, Leniu and Whyte were all given 10 minutes in the sin bin.
“Spencer Leniu started to shape up and the Roosters had just scored.
“Players came running in and started to do their thing but for me, it was absolutely ridiculous from Leniu.
“None of them have been cited. They’ve just been given fines.
“If you’re Molo or Aublix (you’d feel hard done by because) it was Spencer that was the instigator.
“Leniu was carrying on like a pork chop.”
Dolphins coach Kristian Woolf was left bemused about the sin bins to his players after the game.
“I’m confused with the sin bins,” Woolf said in his post-match press conference.
“What are my blokes supposed to do? Do we have to allow ourselves to get punched to avoid a sin bin?
“There was a man standing there with his hands ready to shape up. I don’t know what our blokes are supposed to do.”
“(Woolf) makes a great point,” Parker added.
“The NRL have now put themselves into a corner. If people start carrying on like idiots then it has to be a penalty straight away.
“What is Tawha supposed to do? Those two Dolphins players in my opinion should not have been given 10 minutes in the sin bin.
“Nobody ended up even throwing any punches.”
The Dolphins and Roosters are both locked on 26 competition points in eighth and ninth position respectively on the NRL ladder.
The Roosters host the Bulldogs at Allianz Stadium on Friday night whilst the Dolphins face the Brisbane Broncos at Suncorp Stadium on Saturday in the battle of Brisbane.
