New Zealand Cricket (NZC) has teamed up with Dunedin-based tech innovator Virtual Eye, appointing the Emmy Award-winning company as its official Innovation Partner to drive performance and fan experience to new levels.
The partnership will focus on high-performance analytics, broadcast innovation and fan engagement, combining NZC’s cricket expertise with Virtual Eye’s world-leading 3D graphics and data visualisation technology.
Founded by Sir Ian Taylor, Virtual Eye has become a global leader in sports broadcasting and data visualisation, transforming coverage in cricket, golf, baseball and sailing, and working with major organisations including the PGA Tour, MLB and the America’s Cup.
Speaking on Sport Nation Mornings, NZC chief executive Scott Weenink said the collaboration was another step in the organisation’s digital evolution.
“Really exciting opportunity for New Zealand Cricket to potentially partner with them to produce high-performance sports technology, fan engagement tools and broadcast enhancement tools,” Weenink said.
“They have a phenomenal record in golf, cricket and also yachting. We expect our teams to be innovative and agile on the field and certainly New Zealand Cricket is trying to be the same.”

The agreement follows the launch of NZC’s Cricket Central community app and its partnership with analytics company CricViz, reinforcing the organisation’s commitment to technology and innovation.
Virtual Eye founder Sir Ian Taylor said via press release the partnership was an opportunity to merge technology and cricket expertise to create something special.
“Working directly with NZC gives us the chance to co-develop tools that not only enhance the performance of New Zealand’s players but also inspire, entertain and educate fans at home and abroad,” Taylor said.
“We’re excited to see what we can achieve together."
