Blackcaps captain Mitchell Santner headlines an extended New Zealand squad for the upcoming five-match T20 series against South Africa.
With many Blackcaps only just returning from India following their World Cup final defeat, selectors have effectively named two squads to help manage workloads across the series and the absence of players due to IPL commitments, with just eight players from the campaign on the subcontinent.
Santner, Devon Conway and Lockie Ferguson will feature in the opening three matches before departing, while Kyle Jamieson, Jimmy Neesham, Cole McConchie, Ben Sears and Ish Sodhi are available for the entire series.
Northern Brave opener Katene Clarke, Wellington’s Nick Kelly and Central Districts spinner Jayden Lennox have all been called into a NZ T20 squad for the first time.

Clarke’s selection follows a standout Super Smash campaign where he topped the competition’s run-scoring charts with 431 runs, including an unbeaten century, helping the Brave claim the domestic title.
Lennox earns his first T20 call-up after debuting in the ODI series against India earlier this year, while Kelly has been rewarded for consistent performances with the Wellington Firebirds.
Josh Clarkson, Zak Foulkes, Bevon Jacobs and Tim Robinson have been selected for the full five-match series, while Tom Latham returns to the T20 set-up as wicketkeeper-batter and will captain the side in the final two matches.
Dane Cleaver will also join the squad later in the series once Conway departs.
Several senior players - including Finn Allen, Mark Chapman, Glenn Phillips, Rachin Ravindra and Daryl Mitchell - will miss the series as they are rested following the World Cup, while Matt Henry is spending time with his newborn child.
