Parker: Why has V'Landys changed hardline stance on R360?

Corey Parker has pondered why Peter V’Landys has decided to change his approach to the threat of upstart Rugby Union competition, R360.
The threat of the rebel league has been taken more seriously by the NRL in recent weeks, with Zac Lomax and Ryan Papenhuyzen having been released from their contracts by their respective clubs, with a belief that they may join R360.
With this news, it has created some doubt as to how the NRL will be affected and whether the threat of a 10-year ban from the competition will be an effective deterrent.
Other names, such as Payne Haas, have also been connected to R360 after being offered a $3 million payday, although it appears now that he’ll likely stay with the Brisbane Broncos, with V’Landys having said previously that he wanted to talk to him about the situation.
But Parker has marvelled at how the ARLC Chairman has changed his tack, wondering why he isn’t taking the hardline stance as he has previously shown.
“I find that very interesting,” Parker said on SENQ Breakfast.
“Because V’Landys is the ruler of the game and has handed down these sanctions, and if you go to an unsanctioned (league), then it’s ten years.”
“He was so hellbent and stern,” he added later in the show.
“And now he wants to have conversations with players to go, ‘Have you made sure this, this, and this is in place’.
“He’s now showing empathy and emotion towards the players, ‘Yeah, that’s great. Absolutely take the money but just make sure that it’s all in place’”.
The competition is set to begin next October, with R360 reportedly set to announce their first signings in due course.
