Haas: The moment that turned Brisbane's season around

Payne Haas, ahead of the Broncos' finals campaign, has reflected on how his side was able to turn around their form to be able to finish in the top four.
Under the first season of Michael Maguire, it has certainly been a rollercoaster season in terms of form.
After starting the year with a 4-1 record and sitting in 2nd place, the Broncos then lost six of their next seven games, which saw them sit outside the top eight and raised plenty of questions about the star quality of their team.
But after defeating the Titans in Round 14, Brisbane has won every game bar two, which has seen them snag the last double chance spot.
It was during one of those losses in that 12-game run where the star prop said it was the moment of their turnaround, which was the Round 23 loss to the Melbourne Storm.
In that game, they would lose 22-2 and also lost Adam Reynolds, Ezra Mam and Selwyn Cobbo during the match to hamstring injuries.
However, Haas thinks the defensive showing they displayed in the match has helped set up their success in the remaining rounds.
“I feel like that Melbourne game was the turning point for our season,” Haas said on SENQ Breakfast.
“I feel like we took so much confidence out of that game, especially on the defensive side.”
Looking ahead to their match against Canberra, the Australian representative noted how dangerous a side they are.
But he noted that the main focus for the Broncos would be on themselves until gameday.
“They have been the form team of the comp this year,” he explained.
“We know how dangerous they are.
“But like I said, we’re just worried about ourselves and our preparation for the next few days, and we’ll worry about them when Sunday comes around.”
The Broncos will travel to the nation’s capital later in the week in preparation for their qualifying final against the Raiders.
Their match will take place on Sunday at 4:05pm AEST, with the winner hosting a preliminary final.
The loser will play the winner of the Panthers vs Warriors match next week.
SEN will have live coverage of that match beginning at 3pm available on its radio network and the SEN app.
