Why Maguire backs the Broncos for premiership tilt

Why Maguire backs the Broncos for premiership tilt
Brisbane Broncos coach Michael Maguire remains confident that his side is capable of making this year’s Grand Final despite currently sitting in 6th place.
In his first season in charge of the Red Hill-based side, Maguire has already been through the emotional rollercoaster that is the Broncos head coach role.
They started the season strongly, going 4-1 in their first five games to sit second on the ladder.
Following that, they only won one match out of their next seven matches, putting them outside of the top eight and their finals chances at risk.
But after their loss to the Sea-Eagles in Round 13, they have re-captured their form, having only had losses to the Rabbitohs and Storm since.
And with 5th-placed Penrith having lost on Thursday night to the Storm and the 4th-placed Warriors having lost their lost three of their last four, there is a chance the Broncos may climb higher up the ladder.

This has led Maguire to continue to believe in the goal he set out during pre-season of the Broncos winning their first men’s premiership since 2006, so long as they continue to ride this wave of momentum without Ezra Mam, Adam Reynolds and Selwyn Cobbo in the side until finals.
“We started off with that as our goal,” Maguire told SEN’s Afternoons with Jimmy Smith.
“Now, there are no reasons why (the goal of a premiership) it’s not there for a many of the teams up top.
“It’s about getting momentum, and that’s obviously what we need to make sure we get (against the Dolphins).
“If we get the momentum of the game and play how we want, I believe that I’ve got a team that definitely can be there (on Grand Final day).
“It’s just what happens over the next month, you get a little bit of luck going your way. Obviously, we faced it a little bit last week, which was unfortunate for us.
The Broncos have a season-defining match-up this Saturday when they take on the rivals in the Dolphins at Suncorp Stadium.
If Brisbane can win, it would see them get within one point of Penrith with three rounds left.
They could also pass the Warriors should they lose to the Dragons on Friday night.
