Alexander: The Bulldogs should stop persisting with Galvin at halfback

SEN’s Greg Alexander doesn’t believe Lachlan Galvin should play at halfback in the Bulldogs’ semi-final against the Penrith Panthers on Sunday.
The Bulldogs fell 26-18 in a narrow qualifying final loss against the Melbourne Storm at AAMI Park. It was a battle between two young and upcoming halves in Melbourne’s Jonah Pezet and Galvin.
SEN’s Andrew Voss asked Alexander who won the halves battle with Alexander declaring he doesn’t believe Galvin has the ability to play halfback in first grade.
“Jonah Pezet is not the first choice halfback at Melbourne but he stepped up the other night,” Voss said on SEN 1170 Breakfast.
“Who looks the more genuine halfback; Jonah Pezet or Lachlan Galvin?
“Does Galvin look like a natural seven? Pezet looked the more natural seven."
Alexander responded: “No, I don’t think he is.
“The jury is still out. Is there anyone out there who says that Galvin is their man? I don’t think he is.
“For Lachlan, I can see something there. There’s energy and he’s looking at space.
“However, Jonah Pezet knew what he had to do and had a good kicking game.
“There would be Dogs fans out there who would say that their team looked better before the (spine) changes were made.
“I don’t think too many people have been critical of Lachlan Galvin.
“I have commentated on a number of Dogs games and the previous game against Melbourne, I thought he played well.
“Right now, they must win a game this weekend and what’s their best team?”
Voss added: “Two years down the track, Galvin might be a good seven but he isn’t right now."
Following a mid-season transfer from the Wests Tigers to the Bulldogs, Galvin pushed out starting halfback Toby Sexton from the side.
The Bulldogs host the Panthers at Accor Stadium on Sunday afternoon. The winner will advance to the preliminary final and face the Brisbane Broncos at Suncorp Stadium.
