SENβs Greg Alexander doesnβt believe Lachlan Galvin should play at halfback in the Bulldogsβ semi-final against the Penrith Panthers on Sunday.
The Bulldogs fell 26-18 in a narrow qualifying final loss against the Melbourne Storm at AAMI Park. It was a battle between two young and upcoming halves in Melbourneβs Jonah Pezet and Galvin.
SENβs Andrew Voss asked Alexander who won the halves battle with Alexander declaring he doesnβt believe Galvin has the ability to play halfback in first grade.
βJonah Pezet is not the first choice halfback at Melbourne but he stepped up the other night,β Voss said on SEN 1170 Breakfast.
βWho looks the more genuine halfback; Jonah Pezet or Lachlan Galvin?
βDoes Galvin look like a natural seven? Pezet looked the more natural seven."
Alexander responded: βNo, I donβt think he is.
βThe jury is still out. Is there anyone out there who says that Galvin is their man? I donβt think he is.
βFor Lachlan, I can see something there. Thereβs energy and heβs looking at space.
βHowever, Jonah Pezet knew what he had to do and had a good kicking game.
βThere would be Dogs fans out there who would say that their team looked better before the (spine) changes were made.
βI donβt think too many people have been critical of Lachlan Galvin.
βI have commentated on a number of Dogs games and the previous game against Melbourne, I thought he played well.
βRight now, they must win a game this weekend and whatβs their best team?β
Voss added: βTwo years down the track, Galvin might be a good seven but he isnβt right now."
Following a mid-season transfer from the Wests Tigers to the Bulldogs, Galvin pushed out starting halfback Toby Sexton from the side.
The Bulldogs host the Panthers at Accor Stadium on Sunday afternoon. The winner will advance to the preliminary final and face the Brisbane Broncos at Suncorp Stadium.
