Reynolds: No 2025 Premiership without Maguire
Brisbane Broncos captain Adam Reynolds believes his side would not have won the 2025 Premiership if it weren’t for the training methods set by coach Michael Maguire.
Following the sacking of Kevin Walters at the end of a poor 2024 season, Maguire was appointed to clean up the culture of a Broncos side who were not living up to their full potential.
Maguire faced plenty of backlash for his army boot camps during the pre season which left some players needing spew buckets due to exhaustion.
However, the two-time Premiership coach was vindicated after the Broncos came from behind in all three of their finals matches during the 2025 campaign.
“He has been unbelievable as coach,” Reynolds told SEN 1170 Breakfast.
“His work ethic and the standards that he sets amongst the group are quite unbelievable.
“You saw how fit we were at the back end of games and how we came home from those deficits.
“All that is due to Madge and the hard work he made us do at training.”
Reynolds won his first Premiership in 2014 for South Sydney alongside Maguire. It was South Sydney’s first title in 43 years.
Reynolds, who is the club’s highest points scorer, has been outspoken of his regret in leaving his boyhood club at the end of the 2021 season over a contract dispute.

The 35-year-old joined the Broncos and he believes it’s the best decision he made in his decorated career.
“It was obviously disappointing with the way it finished at South Sydney,” Reynolds added.
“I grew up across the road from Redfern Oval so there was an emotional attachment to the club.
“I never wanted to leave the place but we couldn’t come to an agreement in the end.
“I’ve loved the move to Brisbane and they’ve made me feel like one of their own.
“I’m now an honorary Queenslander which I don’t know how that sits with me (being from NSW).
“I love the city and my family absolutely love it up there.
“The club is magnificent and they’ve taken me with open arms. To be able to get some success up there as well has been a dream come true.”
Reynolds enters the 2026 season under the final year of his contract.
Reynolds’ upcoming 15th season in the NRL may be his last with the impending arrival of Jonah Pezet to the Broncos in 2027.
