Meninga responds to Howe accusations
Perth Bears coach Mal Meninga have given his thoughts and feelings surrounding the situation between his Bears, the Gold Coast Titans and former employee Ezra Howe.
Howe, who was the former recruitment manager of the Titans, is currently facing legal threats from the Gold Coast after being accused of breaching the NRL’s anti-tampering rules.

News Corp reports allege that Howe was using knowledge whilst employed with the Titans to start building a wish list of players for the Bears.
It has also been alleged that Howe had spoken with the player agents of Tino Fa’asuamaleaui, Carter Gordon, Sam Verrills and Jaylan De Groot about delaying their re-signings with the Titans.
Reacting to the story on SEN 1170’s Afternoons, the Rugby League Immortal was quick to point out that he wouldn’t be able to comment on the situation due to the current investigation into Howe’s actions.
“I can’t make any comment on that because there are potential legal matters,” Meninga said.
“It’s been upsetting for all parties, and this is an unfortunate situation that we are all having to go through.
“But we're not quite sure what’s going to happen, but I can’t really comment too much in depth because of the legal implications that may occur.”
When asked about what the legal implications could be in this case, Meninga maintained his unsure stance. But did admit that he had planned for Howe to be his recruitment manager to help build this side into its inaugural season.
“It’s obviously what’s been in the news,” he continued.
“Again, I’m uncertain where it all stands at the moment.
“I’m trying to get on with the job with the Perth Bears as their head coach and try and get things moving along.
“This is upsetting, and it doesn't help moving forward. Again, I’m not quite sure where it all sits at the moment.
“Obviously, Ezra Howe is a good friend of mine, and I wanted him to be my recruitment manager.
“But that is not possible at this stage.”
The Bears will be officially able to begin recruiting and signing players as of November 1 this year.
