Parker's massive backflip on Des Hasler's future
Corey Parker and Andrew McCullough have debated whether Des Hasler should remain as Gold Coast Titans coach beyond this year.
It’s been a difficult season for the Titans, who find themselves in 17th place with only five wins to their name.
As a result of their poor form it was expected that Hasler would be sacked or retire amid reports of a no-finals clause in his contract.
But it now appears that the Titans may backflip on this call, with Hasler having previously stated that he wanted to stay on in 2026.
And Brisbane Broncos legend Parker believes that Hasler just might stay to try and help keep some of their stars, like captain Tino Fa'asuamaleaui.
“I do,” Parker said on SENQ Breakfast.
“They’ve told Brian Kelly, Phillip Sami. Tino looks like he’s on the way out, Kieran Foran is retiring, and David Fifita has looked to go and link up with Wayne.
“Also, Alofiana Khan-Pereira has asked for a release; they are yet to rubber-stamp that.
“So, there’s a fair stack of talent, one of those being your captain.
“I would suggest that if Dessie is on the way out, those players would wait around to see who’s coming next, you would think?”
However, McCullough thinks that the Titans must move on from Hasler and refresh the list.
“It’s a funny one,” McCullough noted. “For mine, I just thought that this is probably once again, a bit of smoke around.
“I still personally can’t see Dessie staying, but that’s just my opinion.
“I think those guys have been told, let’s move on and start fresh, recalibrate our salary cap and see what else is out there.
“Because if you hang on to these guys, are we any different from what we are originally?”
The Titans will feature on Saturday afternoon when they play the Cronulla Sharks at Shark Park.
