How a culture of failure has doomed the Gold Coast Titans
Expectations were high for the Gold Coast Titans as they entered the 2025 season under the second season of veteran coach Des Hasler.
Sadly, the campaign quickly derailed which resulted in the Titans and Hasler parting ways at season’s end.
The Titans spent 13 weeks of 27 on the bottom of the ladder and if it weren’t for the injury-plagued Newcastle Knights’ shocking end to the season, Gold Coast would’ve claimed their third wooden spoon.
SEN’s Corey Parker believes a culture of mediocrity has been able to foster at the Titans and until it’s addressed by the players and coaches, the club will continue to languish at the bottom end of the ladder for years to come.

“They had 18 losses and six wins,” Parker said on SENQ Breakfast.
“The facts are that Des Hasler was brought into the club to turn it around. They’ve ended up being the worst defensive team in the competition. That’s a mindset and attitude.
“This isn’t going to be an overnight fix (but) they need someone to come in and bring resilience to this group.
“There needs to be a training standard brought in and accountability and responsibility brought into that team. Right now, it’s clear that there isn’t enough.
“When you are losing and getting beaten week in and week out and there’s no accountability in your performance, it will just continue.
“Your training habits are what puts you in good stead come game day. Pre-season starts in November and they need to be made uncomfortable.
“Take the Broncos as an example. Michael Maguire was crucified for his training methods and (they are playing in a preliminary final).
“They should be in the top eight with that roster (because) Gold Coast have some of the most exciting players in the competition.
“The Titans have nine players that have either played State of Origin or Test matches and yet somehow, they can’t get it done.
“Keano Kini, Jayden Campbell and AJ Brimson. You could throw them up as some of the best players in the competition.
“Resilience, accountability and standards is where they need to improve for me.”
“I’m expecting a huge off-season from the Titans and new coach Josh Hannay.”
Following the departure of Hasler, the Titans have made a number of key moves both on and off the field.
The Titans have acquired the most sought after rookie coach on the market in Josh Hannay.
Hannay is currently an assistant at the Cronulla Sharks and served as Billy Slater’s assistant coach for Queensland during the last four State of Origin series.
Additionally, the Titans have welcomed back inaugural General Manager Scott Sattler who has been appointed as director of football.
