The New Zealand Breakers have confirmed the date that they will retire the No. 10 jersey in honour of club legend Tom Abercrombie.
The former Tall Blacks captain had quite the storied relationship over the course of 16 years with the club.
Having signed as a developmental player in 2008 at the age of 21, the small forward would help the side win their first four NBL championships, which included their historic three-peat between 2010/11-2012/13 seasons before retiring in 2024.
He would also go on to lead the Breakers in various all-time stats such as points scored, appearances, steals, and three-pointers made.
With all his achievements, the club would confirm in December that they would retire his No. 10 jersey.
But now, they have confirmed that there will be a ceremony at their game against Melbourne United on January 30 at Spark Arena in Auckland for fans to pay tribute.
In a statement, NZ Breakers owner Marc Mitchell felt that the move was fitting for a man who has done so much for the club.
“Tom Abercrombie is the heart and soul of this organization,” he said.
“His loyalty to this jersey is unparalleled in modern sport. We are retiring the number 10 to honour the standard of excellence and integrity Tom set for sixteen seasons.
"It is only fitting that no Breaker will ever wear number 10 again.
"He was always a favourite of the fans - so we look forward to the Breaker Nation filling Spark Arena to give him the tribute he deserves.”
