Mid-season review: Flying Magpies playing better than anyone else
SEN • June 14th, 2025 3:00 pm

Kane Cornes and David King have graded the start to the 2025 season for each club as the competition enters the middle part of the season.
Graded on SEN’s Fireball, the pundits look at both the positives and negatives from the opening 13 weeks and determine whether each side is tracking well or have areas of concern.
With Collingwood heading into their break on top of the ladder, Cornes and King had a closer look at the Pies’ first 13 games.
Craig McRae’s side have lost just twice in 2025, currently have a six-point buffer on top of the ladder and are firming for another premiership tilt.

The Pies copped plenty of criticism over the off-season for taking 10 players into the year aged 30 or over, however the move has paid dividends.
Since being thumped by GWS in Opening Round by 52 points, the Pies have won every game except for a heartbreaking loss to Geelong in Round 8.
“They are absolutely flying,” Cornes said.
“They are 10-2, they are playing better than anyone, their game plan is elite and there is so much belief in it from their players regardless of who is in the lineup.
“If they stay healthy they are a very good chance to win the whole thing, which is not a sentence I thought I would’ve be saying in the pre-season.
“They’ve got to keep that stability on the field and off it.”
King added: “It is just a management discussion for here on in to keep the club on track
“They will definitely rest a few of their players in the back half of the year.
“I like what they are doing without the footy more than with it and that’s a great space to be in."
