Mid-season review: Brisbane still thriving after Daniher loss
Kane Cornes and David King have taken a look at every club’s start to 2025 as the competition gears up for the second half of the season.
Analysed on SEN’s Fireball, the pundits evaluated every club’s start to 2025 and discussed whether they have exceeded expectations or been underwhelming so far.
With Brisbane heading into the bye in second spot, Cornes and King looked at how the Lions have fared in their first 15 games.
Chris Fagan’s side are currently 10-4-1 and look set to qualify for their seventh finals appearance in a row.
Brisbane

The Lions broke through for their first flag since 2003 after six consecutive finals appearance when they thrashed Sydney in last years Grand Final.
Chris Fagan’s men were expected to feature at the pointy end again in 2025 however recent history has shown that the reigning premiers have struggled just after winning the flag.
Those thoughts were put to bed quickly with the Lions winning their first five games and proved their premiership credentials last week by defeating Geelong at GMHBA Stadium.
Cornes and King felt that Brisbane’s forward half was their point of difference and they had plenty of dangerous threats in their side.
“They’re a bloody good side,” King said.
“We love particularly their forward half.
“You look forward of centre without Daniher this year was the question how would they cover that.
“When Kai Lohmann plays like he did on the weekend and is involved aerially I think they are a different forward fifty.
“Logan Morris has taken a giant stride as a youngster.”
“I thought Zac bailey was unbelievable on Friday night,” Cornes said
“He just sliced and diced through Geelong so there’s talent everywhere.
“Who is their most important player the Lions is it still (Hugh) McCluggage and (Lachie) Neale or is (Dayne) Zorko in that conversation now,” King said.
“It is probably the hardest question to answer of any team because they’ve got so many,” Cornes said.
“I would think it is (Cam) Rayner, because when he plays like that and when he’s in that sort of mindset centre bounce forward he is the one for me.
“I thought he was the one on Friday night but far to often he is a ten possession one goal player Cam Rayner.
“If he can get that to 17 and two goals in the back end they look a different looking unit
