Mahoney and Sexton set to exit Bulldogs for impending Galvin arrival
The dominoes are beginning to fall at the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs following the impending signing of star playmaker Lachlan Galvin from the Wests Tigers.
Galvin’s camp has confirmed that the 19-year-old is interested in joining the Bulldogs immediately from the Tigers. A deal has not yet been finalised.
However, Bulldogs halfback Toby Sexton and his management have read the tea leaves and have informed the Bulldogs that he will not remain at the club beyond next season.
“It was during Magic Round that Toby Sexton’s manager came out in the media and began discussing about sitting down (with the club) and re-signing,” The Daily Telegraph’s David Riccio told SEN 1170 Breakfast.
“That agitated the Bulldogs (because) that wasn’t the case. They were a wait and see on Toby Sexton. It was up to Sexton to show them why they should re-sign him.
“His agent did him no favours. From then on, Toby hasn’t been able to hit the heights that the Bulldogs would’ve hoped.
“Of course in the background was this whole Lachlan Galvin situation.
“The Bulldogs had to make a move and that’s where they sit with Toby Sexton.
“Sexton won’t be there next year even if the Dogs put forward an offer. It’ll be interesting to see where he ends up.
“The Gold Coast Titans are an obvious landing spot given Toby was previously there and they always have issues as far as halfbacks are concerned.”

In addition to Sexton, it appears that former club captain Reed Mahoney is also set to depart the Bulldogs.
“There’s been ongoing noise around Reed Mahoney for the past 12 months,” Riccio added.
“He is contracted until the end of 2026 (but) his manager Sam Ayoub went to the club and asked for a contract extension.
“The club said it was highly unlikely and they believe Bailey Hayward is the future. The Bulldogs then told Mahoney to go find a deal beyond 2026.
“Once you sign that deal beyond 2026, it indicates thep potential of an early release. Either at the end of this season or earlier.
“The Cowboys are my early tip because they haven’t replaced Reece Robson who is off to the Sydney Roosters at the end of the season.
“Reed Mahoney’s name has certainly been named by the Cowboys.”
The Bulldogs currently sit at the top of the competition ladder and have the bye in Round 13.
