The "promising" colt at tasty odds who could win a Magic Millions
The Magic Millions 2YO Classic is just around the corner and the Michael Kent Jnr & Mick Price stable has a talented colt who could take out the Listed Race.
The colt goes by the name of Guest House and is the son of Home Affairs.
The bay is yet to compete in a race as he was scratched from his first start in Melbourne Cup week due to mucus. Despite this, the colt has trialled excellently with each trial increasing the excitement around the horse.
Giddy Up host Gareth Hall asked Michael Kent Jnr about the enthusiasm around the colt and the co-trainer admitted that it’s tough to hide his talent from the public.
“I think in today's day and age, you can't really hide a nice horse,” Kent Jnr told SENTrack & RSN’s Giddy Up.
“They show up and there's so much vision now of trials, and he trialled very well back in late October.
“We had him basically ready to go for Flemington Cup week – accepted – and then we had to scratch him due to mucus.
“He's always been promising, but it's fair to say he's come back a better horse since the break.”
Gareth Hall then brought up how he was conversating about Guest House with Mick Price before that Flemington race.
Hall revealed that Kent Jnr’s co-trainer said that the colt still has a little bit of learning to do, but it now sounds like that break that has really helped him.
Kent Jnr agreed with the synopsis, stating that the horse has come back much better.
“Yeah, that's right. It (the break) wasn't by design,” Kent Jnr said.
“He just had persistent mucus. We scoped him every week in the paddock and it ended up taking four weeks to clear.
“So, clearly he had an immature immune system. But he's come back and been fantastic. He's a beautiful horse.
“As always, though, it's all good to get excited before they go to the races, but they've got to keep galloping when the going gets tough at the furlong.
“He’s got all the hallmarks of a nice two-year-old. He's a lovely cut of a horse. He looks very much like his old man,” the co-trainer said.
“He's a very big, strong horse, but he's balanced and light on his feet. He's got a beautiful brain.
“His first ever jump out, Jamie Melham rode him and he was in the gates for two or three minutes and then the horse ejected down at the back of the gates, and he (the other horse) had to get an ambulance to go to hospital.
“They had to bring all the horses back to the tie-ups and then go back out again. He (Guest House) didn't turn a hair during that whole process, which is very tough for a young two-year-old that's got plenty of spark like him - he handled it with aplomb.
“He's got all the right characteristics.”
Kent Jnr revealed that he has three or four horses by Home Affairs in his stable now, but Guest House is the clear top selection.
“I've got three or four (horses by Home Affairs),” Kent Jnr said.
“He's certainly the pick of them.”
The talented colt is currently $16 with Sportsbet to win the Magic Millions 2YO Classic on January 17, 2026.
