Lyon responds to Cornes’ inauthentic comments directed at key Melbourne figures
Melbourne great Garry Lyon has responded to Kane Cornes labelling the club as inauthentic in the media.
Cornes, who has taken issue with the way key figures at the Dees have conducted public interviews in recent seasons amid questions over the club’s culture, took aim at coach Simon Goodwin on Monday after the coach sat down with Herald Sun journalist Jay Clark.
In the article, Goodwin tried to assure fans that Kysaiah Pickett was as ‘engaged as he’s ever seen’ despite the forward reportedly telling players at Fremantle that he hopes to play there next season. The coach also spoke of how much he and the club love Clayton Oliver, which Cornes took issue with as the Demons have reportedly looked at trading the midfielder in the last two trade periods.
While SEN Breakfast co-host Tim Watson agrees with Cornes’ take on the club and Lyon himself can understand why some would have that opinion on Melbourne, he believes that the club has addressed many of its key issues with leadership coach Ben Crowe brought in to facilitate a new mindset approach.
Lyon is also a hopeful believer in the direction the Dees are going and hopes the club to get over a torrid 18 months that’s plagued the club both on and off-field.
