Kane Cornes has provided his list of his top 10 favourite taggers of all-time.
Cornes, who played as a tagger at key points of his 300-game career, picked those that he most enjoyed watching.
“These aren’t the best, just the ones I really enjoyed watching and learned a lot off,” Cornes said on SEN Sportsday.
Kane’s Countdown – My favourite taggers of all-time
10 – Andrew Carrazzo (Carlton)
“He won a best and fairest for the Blues and was a very good player for them.
“A handy run-with player, but could also get a stack of the footy himself.”
9 – Brady Rawlings (North Melbourne)
“Just disciplined, hard-nosed and pretty good at getting his own footy as well.
“He took on the big task and was just really difficult to get a kick on.”
8 – Matt De Boer (Fremantle, GWS)
“Leon Cameron used to give him all the big jobs, and he had some big jobs in big games.
“I thought he was very instrumental to the makeup of the Giants when they were a good side.”
7 – Tony Liberatore (Western Bulldogs)
“He probably didn't tag for his whole career, but he turned himself into a gun player as a hard-nosed tagger.
“He was a Brownlow medallist and wouldn’t give his opponents an inch.”
6 – Damien Peverill (Essendon)
“I really enjoyed Damien Peverill’s work for the Bombers. He won his own footy, accepted the big jobs and had a huge engine.
“He played a lot of games off pure determination and a want to beat his opponent.”
5 – Touk Miller (Gold Coast)
“Touk Miller is probably too good to be a tagger, but I just wanted to recognise him for when he was.
“I love the way he goes about it.”
4 – Cameron Ling (Geelong)
“Cameron Ling is as good as anyone to have done it.
“The thing about Lingy was that he was so big, but such a great runner. I learned a lot from Lingy and he was as good as I've seen.”
3 – Brett Kirk (Sydney)
“Find me a player who gets the most out of the ability that they've been given more than Brett Kirk.
“He was as tough as they come and incredible.”
2 – Josh Carr (Port Adelaide, Fremantle)
“He probably taught me the most out of anyone.
“He was as competitive as tough and as dogged as there was and he eventually graduated to be a very good midfielder in his own right.”
1 – Paul Licuria (Collingwood)
“Paul Licuria was my favourite tagger… he really worked back hard to get into his defence, and he won a lot of possessions doing that.
“He had a huge tank. I really admired that Collingwood era under Mick Malthouse and Paul Lauria was central to that.”
