Cornes: Geelong embarrassed themselves in Mad Monday disrespect

Geelong players did nothing but embarrass themselves in their Mad Money gathering, according to Kane Cornes, who has no issue with the end of season get together, but said some of the costumes bordered on disrespectful.
Max Holmes has continued his "trend" of dressing up as media personalities.
In 2023, he dressed up as SEN’s Gerard Whateley. Last year, he was caught impersonating Channel 7’s Mitch Cleary.
In 2025, he has dressed up as Caroline Wilson.
Sam De Koning and Ollie Dempsey took aim at rumours surrounding Geelong allegedly circumventing the salary cap through third-party deals.
They were seen arriving at the venue in an Aston Martin with a Cotton On logo covering the number plate, with Dempsey having the logo on his singlet, carrying brown paper bags.
Patrick Dangerfield and Rhys Stanley wore cowboy outfits in a tribute to the TV show Yellowstone with a custom decal on their ute.
Bailey Smith has dressed as Tristan Ludlow from the 1994 film Legends of the Fall which features Brad Pitt and Anthony Hopkins.
The Cats were smashed in Saturday's Grand Final in a 47-point loss to the Brisbane Lions and the optics of their annual Mad Monday celebrations did not hit the mark for Cornes.
"You're embarrassed on Grand Final Day, pretty much getting absolutely smashed, but then in the background somewhere, you have organised a face painter to have your face painted like a cat, to turn up and celebrate a 10 goal Grand Final," Cornes said on Trade Radio referring to Brad Close who dressed up as Catman.
"Close, who at some point last week thought, I'm going to sit down for an hour or 90 minutes to get my face painted after we've been smashed and I've had 12 touches in a grand final and I'm going to turn up while my supporters are still hurting and celebrate a grand final smashing.
"Imagine Max Holmes thinking it's a good idea to disrespect a legend of Australian football media in Caroline Wilson and trying to ridicule her.
"I thought that was one of the more embarrassing days at the Geelong footy club that I've seen in a while.
"They've owned this space for a long time, but at some point have you just got to say, it's not book week, we're not in year five.
"Let's just turn up in a shirt and some jeans and have a have a good day, a few quiet beers and celebrate a grand final loss where we got smashed in the second half.
"We don't need to dress up and make ourselves look like fools.
"I thought Close, Holmes, Smith and Dangerfield, they embarrassed themselves yesterday.
"Of course they're entitled to gather. We're not 12, it's not year five. You look like an idiot.
"Do you think Chris Scott is looking at that and thinking 'oh yeah that's good'. Still under investigation."
