"Ashamed and disrespected": Netball legend's marriage breakdown
To so many she will be remembered as Julie Corletto, one of the greatest Australian netball players of all time; winner of three World Cups, a 52-cap Diamond, Commonwealth Games gold medallist and dual premiership winner.
What few will know is she now goes by Julie Prendergast - still one of the greatest Diamonds and defenders the game has seen with the exact same accolades.
For the first time, the mother of three has opened up about the brutal breakdown of her marriage to former basketball star Daryl Corletto.
In a raw and brave interview with Centre Court, the 39-year-old spoke about the depth of the torment she endured and how netball helped her overcome the embarrassment and shame she felt.
"A lot of people go through separations in partnerships; that’s what I went through and it was not a nice experience," she said.
"That hardest part for me I suppose was dealing with a lot of the treatment, how I was treated through that and still navigating through it. I don’t know how to describe it to be honest. It was a horrible experience. I wouldn’t wish on anyone.
"I just want the best for my kids, I want them happy and thriving and to be good people. Showing empathy and to treat people with respect. But when I'm not respected, I don’t tolerate that.
"Early on I was internalising it all and thinking it was my fault. I removed myself from netball and I shouldn’t have done that, I shied away from the support. I felt embarrassed and ashamed of what happened."
