It’s been a long and winding journey for Collingwood forward Jamie Elliott who plays his 200th AFL game in Round 6.
After emerging on the scene in 2012 as a high-flying excitement machine, the premiership player is still thrilling Magpie crowds 14 years later, even if those seasons didn’t always piece together perfectly.
Back, ankle and hamstring injuries would cruel the entirety of his 2016 and 2018 seasons, while a rare vascular issue in 2024 cast doubt over his career entirely.
After being told by doctors that he could even lose multiple toes if the vascular problem intensified, Elliott is immensely grateful for every time he gets to pull on the black and white jumper.
“I was in good hands thankfully (with the vascular issue),” Elliott told SEN.
“I’m just incredibly grateful to play each game, I never thought I’d play 200 games, to be honest, so I’m definitely going to enjoy it.”
Luckily for the player and club, Elliott would be rewarded for working through his tough early times with a premiership in 2023, a victory that he played an enormous role in across a two-year campaign.
It was in those years that he’d pick up a new reputation. Magical match-winners against Essendon and Carlton in 2022 and Port Adelaide in 2023 earned Elliott the moniker of ‘the King of Clutch’.
With his legacy cemented in 2023, Elliott has again evolved since, earning a place in Collingwood’s leadership group for the first time in 2025.
While Elliott has a Mark of the Year, two Gordon Coventry Trophies and a flag to his name, there’s no doubt becoming the 39th player in Collingwood V/AFL history to reach the 200-game mark will rank among the biggest achievements of his career to date.
Here’s hoping there’s plenty more to come in 2025 and beyond.
