Jake Stringer injury will delay Giants debut after strong pre-season
Jake Stringer’s debut for GWS could be delayed until Round 3 after the former Bomber sustained a hamstring injury, according to Channel 9’s Tom Morris.
The 30-year-old picked up a low-grade strain during a pre-season VFL practice match against Southport at the weekend.
“He won’t play against Collingwood and I don’t think he’s going to play against Melbourne the week after,” Morris said on SEN Breakfast.
“He picked up a hamstring strain in the first 10 minutes of a practice game on the weekend.
“It’s considered low-grade but it’s at least a couple of weeks and they have the bye in week 3 so we probably won’t see him for the the Giants until at least Round 3.”
It’s the latest recent setback for Stringer since he joined the Giants having been hospitalised with a virus only last week which saw him sit out his side’s pre-season clash with Sydney.
He spent 24 hours under observation before being released.
Prior, Stringer had been lauded for his brilliant pre-season with the Giants having made the move from Essendon in the trade period.
Stringer joins Tom Green on the Giants’ casualty list with the midfielder out with a calf injury.
