'It's a farce': Dally M Medal voting again called into question

The voting process for the Dally M Medal is once again under the spotlight after some questionable results over the first round of the new NRL season.
The current Dally M voting system has two independent judges anonymously give 3-2-1 votes with a player being able to receive a maximum of six votes in one match.
SEN’s Andrew Voss has questioned the integrity of the voting system for the NRL’s “most prestigious award” after North Queensland Cowboys winger Braidon Burns was awarded one vote despite his side being thrashed 42-12 at the hands of Manly.
“It was possibly one of the best first round performances you’ve ever seen from Manly,” Voss said on SEN 1170 Breakfast.
“They were exhilarating and I can probably rattle off the five, six or seven best players for Manly. You could also name them in a heartbeat.
“Tom Trbojevic won man of the match with both judges so he got six points.
“One of the voters, who was anonymous, rated Braidon Burns as the third best player in the game.
“They need to put their hand up and put a name to their vote. Burns had effort but that’s it.
“One of the judges potentially gave Trbojevic three votes, Reuben Garrick two and Braidon Burns one.
“According to that judge, Braidon Burns had a greater impact than Daly Cherry-Evans.
“I know it’s just a solitary point but it can't be. It’s an absolute farce.
“With all due respect to Braidon Burns, he’s a good player but he’s not going to win the Dally M.
“How the hell does that happen? It happened last year on occasion as well.
“It’s our most prestigious award. At the end of the season, if Manly have a good year, Cherry-Evans will be in the frame for the Dally M.
“If he ends up one vote short, go back to Round 1 and it’ll be because of Braidon Burns stealing a single point.”
