At 0-4, Carlton has everything to play for as they take on fellow winless side West Coast this Saturday afternoon.
With a number of senior players out of touch, coach Michael Voss failed to swing a major axe at the selection table, dropping only three players in Cooper Lord, Ashton Moir and Lewis Young, while also losing Lachie Cowan to injury.
Ahead of their must-win Gather Round clash, SEN Fireball’s Kane Cornes and David King have put Voss in the gun following the lack of statement in selection.
Cornes: “Is Vossy in the gun for how patient he’s being at selection?”
King: “That’s a very good question; he didn’t really drop anyone did he?”
Cornes: “He made some changes, (Harry) McKay comes in, (Matt) Cottrell, (Matt) Carroll and (Corey) Durdin.
“Out goes (Lewis) Young, that’s an easy omission. (Lachie) Cowan, easy omission. (Ashton) Moir, easy, and Cooper Lord.
King: “I can’t believe they dropped Lord.”
Cornes: “There’s some big names that are being left in that side that probably are lucky, so I think Voss is in the gun.
“They play West Coast so they will win, and (the Eagles) have made some big changes themselves, but I think its fair to put Vossy in the gun for his patience.
“(Sam) Docherty keeping his spot I the side is really interesting, his performance and his lack of physicality in those moments.
“Should he be playing at the level now? Probably not. (Zac) Williams is the other one.”
Carton aside, Cornes has taken another jab at Western Bulldogs defender Rory Lobb.
The 32-year-old has claimed a glut of media attention with his varied haircuts over the last few weeks, going from blue all over, to a lobster.
Ahead of the Bulldogs’ clash with the Brisbane Lions, Lobb has gone for yet another statement haircut, with “woof woof” written on the sides of his head in blue and red.
Kane: “Lobb’s done the haircut again.
“I know people will think I’m a little bit old school or pedantic.
“This is becoming all about him and the TikTok influence and him getting famous ahead of the team.
“He’s got woof woof on the side of his head. It's comical
"People think it’s funny or whatever, it’s just ridiculous.”
King: “At what stage does the coach just say, 'that’s enough Rory’.”
Cornes: “Three weeks ago?”
King: “You got to give him a little bit of rope.”
Cornes: “He had some rope with the blue hair and that was good, I didn’t mind that.
“The lobster in the hair was absolutely ridiculous, and now the woof woof on the side of the head.
“It’s the wanting to get famous off it, which is the interesting thing, putting himself ahead of the team.”
King: “I think the woof woof is probably the last port of call.
“I’m with you with that one. I’ll give you a couple of swings, he’s gone a third strike.”
