“I wasn’t lying”: Morris stands by Jamarra’s apparent Swans desire
Jamarra Ugle-Hagan is back in Melbourne and ready to return to Western Bulldogs training.
That is according to SEN regular Tom Morris who is adamant the troubled forward recently told people close to him that he wants to play for the Sydney Swans.
Last week Ugle-Hagan responded to a social media post of Morris suggesting he wanted to be a Swan, indicating that the Channel 9 journalist was lying.
Jamarra wrote: ‘@trmorris 32 none of my mates would talk you bro. Stop capping’.
But Morris stood by his comments that the 23-year-old is seeking to reinvigorate his flailing career in Sydney.
“He gave me a little cook. He said that I was ‘capping’. I had to Google ‘what does capping mean’, and it means lying,” Morris said on SEN Breakfast.
“I can tell you I wasn’t lying.
“Jamarra Ugle-Hagan was telling people that he would like to play for the Sydney Swans next year. Whether that eventuates or not, I’m not sure.
“I do think that his absolute first preference is to stay at the Dogs if they want him. But they’ve got to want him and he’s got to come to the party as well. There’s certainly been an erosion of trust there between Jamarra and the Dogs over a period of time.
“He would like to get back to training at the Dogs. He’s back in Melbourne, he wasn’t at the club yesterday.”
So, how does Jamarra get back to training with the Doggies?
“The Dogs are trying to work that out at the moment, what the next few weeks look like,” Morris added.
Before Morris pondered the trade value of the former no.1 draft pick, provided of course, the Dogs are looking to move him on.
“The hard thing for the Dogs is - and I don’t know exactly what they’re thinking - if they do want to trade him next year, they can’t come across publicly as wanting to get rid of him because his trade value plummets,” he added.
“His trade value, if he doesn’t play this year, it’s really unclear how to work this out. He’s a no.1 pick with one year left on a deal, but he’s clearly tainted with a bit of baggage. I don’t know exactly how they work out what he’s worth.
“I’d be surprised if he wasn’t back at the Dogs in the next few weeks in some form.”
Ugle-Hagan recently spent time at a health retreat while increasing his training on the Gold Coast and in Byron Bay.
He is now back in Melbourne and reportedly keen to resume training with the Bulldogs.
