Why a $6 million offer wasn’t enough for Sheza Alibi’s owner
Sheza Alibi’s owner, Fred Noffke, turned down an offer worth $6 million for his gun filly.
The emerging champion has already won over $3.7 million in prize money, and has won two Group 1s, including the Doncaster Mile by 4.29 lengths.
But why did Noffke reject such a huge offer for the filly?
The reason being is because the three-year-old by Saxon Warrior simply has too much potential.
“There'd be something wrong with me if I was ever to be accepting an offer because the potential is just massive,” the owner told SENTrack & RSN’s Giddy Up.
“It's just embarrassing how beautiful inside and outside she really is in personality.
“What the tax man would take would just crucify me anyway.”
In fact, Noffke doesn’t see another horse in Australia being able to compete against her.
“I think the world is her oyster. After the Golden Eagle, I am having a little bit of trouble finding where the competition is,” Noffke admitted.
“I don't say that for an ego but ultimately, you take Observer out (reitred) and you take away Tentyris (retired); we’ve (also) beat Autumn Boy twice, like something's got to come from away.”
However, the owner admitted that he would potentially sell the Peter Moody & Katherine Coleman-trained bay in the future if she randomly stops performing up to her peak level.
“Ultimately in the end, she can come back and go be a bit maternal and not want to gallop,” the owner stated.
“She can just decide, ‘I'll only go three quarters of my turn of the foot.’
“If you ever say never you're going to be in trouble. You just can never say never because so often I say I'll never do that, then you end up doing it.”
Sheza Alibi also looks set to win the $10 million Golden Eagle in the spring.
Run at set weight conditions over 1500m for four-year-old horses, the winner takes home a whopping $5.25 million, and right now, the Fred Noffke-owned filly is in a perfect position to win Australia’s second richest sprint.
