“The end is near”: Will Mr B and Jenni retire soon?
Is the end near for two of racing’s biggest fan favourites?
Mr Brightside and Pride Of Jenni have taken the racing world by storm in recent years, acquiring a huge following of fans, but age could be catching up to the pair.
Both stars are eight years old and have competed in a combined 91 races.
In their last start in the Group 1 Champions Mile Mr Brightside finished fifth, while Pride Of Jenni came second last, and now questions are starting to be asked about the pair’s future by RSN’s Trav and Nick Noonan.
Trav: “I don’t really want to say this but how many more times are we going to see Mr Brightside at the races?
“He’s eight.
Nick: “I think we will see him for an autumn campaign and Jenni may be in a similar boat.
“Next years spring is going to look a lot more different to this year.
Trav: “I wonder if we will even see Jenni for an autumn campaign, she’s an eight-year-old mare.
“If we don’t, I think as fans of the sport, thank you!
“They’ve been absolute warriors the two horses.
“Yes, the Champions Mile wasn’t their time, but they made that race being there, the two of them.”
After hearing that conversation, a listener texted into RSN’s Correct Weight advising the brothers not to write off the champions.
Trav explained that he wasn’t writing off the fan favourite duo but rather was having a logical reflection based off their older age.
Trav: “I wasn’t writing off Pride Of Jenni or Mr Brightside.
Nick: “It just feels like the end is near.
Trav: “Yeah, maybe I shouldn’t think like that but they’re both eight-year-olds.
“I just had a realisation that this is the last spring I’m probably going to see them.
“So, just enjoy them.”
