Freedman: Tentyris will "for sure" run in Champions Sprint
Tentyris announced himself as a future megastar on Saturday, dominating in the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m).
The three-year-old colt copped an early bump, forcing him into last place, but that was no worries for Tentyris’ regular jockey Mark Zahra who got the Anthony and Sam Freedman-trained chestnut out of a tough position.
The colt went on to win the Group 1 by 2.25 lengths, thanks to his trademark sprint home.
When asked on RSN’s Correct Weight if Tentyris will race again this weekend in the Group 1 Champions Sprint (1200m), Freedman confirmed that the colt will “for sure” be backing up on Stakes Day.
“As we sit here today, I’d say yeah he will, for sure,” Freedman said.
“It was always the plan to do that, and he’s given us no reason this morning to think that he shouldn’t be back down the straight on Saturday.
“We were keen to miss an Everest – this was going to always be his shot at the older sprinters.
“No reason why he won’t be there next week.
“He’s just a beast now… We won’t be shying away from any challenges going forward.”
Reflecting on the heart in hand moment in the Coolmore where Tentyris copped an early bump, Freedman had nothing but praise for Mark Zahra for getting his horse back into a winning position.
“That was the part for me… I did think we were in a precarious position possibly following not the right horses,” Freedman admitted.
“I thought we were in a tricky spot, but that’s why you’ve got the best jockey on board that sorts it out.
“This horse is like a rat up the drainpipe when you see a little gap, and when that appeared yesterday, he was scintillating.
“I think he even surprised Mark (Zahra) and the horse himself with how quickly he put them away.
“The one thing (Mark Zahra’s) said all the way through is every time he sits on the horse, Tentyris just gets better and better.”
Tentyris is $2.60 (with Sportsbet) to win the Champions Sprint, while Joliestar is the $2.50 favourite.
