Australian Bloodstock Director Jamie Lovett has opened up about the syndications spring plan for star import Sayedaty Sadaty.
The Irish import made its Australian debut in last years Caulfield Cup, but disappointed, finishing third last out of 18 runners.
Since then Sayedaty Sadaty has hit form, winning two of his last five races and placing in the other three.
Lovett is impressed with how the Gelding is travelling, revealing that Australian Bloodstock will run the horse in the Group 3 Archer Stakes (2500m), preparing the five-year-old for both the Caulfield Cup and Melbourne Cup.
“Sayedaty he’ll run in the Archer (Stakes) on the 13th (of September),” Lovett revealed.
“He’s found form, he’s a beautiful, relaxed staying horse that puts himself on speed.
“So, we’re hoping we can get him into both the cups as well.”
Reflecting on Sayedaty Sadaty’s poor Caulfield Cup performance last year, Lovett admitted that the Australian Bloodstock team pushed the Gelding too hard, too early.
“Look, we asked too much of him, to be fair,” Lovett admitted.
“He arrived as a three-year-old Northern Hemisphere, we dropped him into a Caulfield Cup, and he just was above himself.
“He was still a Colt at the time, it all went pair shaped.”
Since that lacklustre run in the Caulfield Cup, Lovett attributed the five-year-old’s unbelievable form to trainer Ciaron Maher.
“He’s testament to the (Ciaron) Maher stable down here,” said Lovett.
“We castrated him, gave him time, and he’s had the beautiful long season with Ciaron (Maher).
“I think we’re reaping the benefits now, I loved his couple of wins.”
Despite the import finishing third in its last start at Moonee Valley across 2040m, Lovett revealed that the track actually didn’t suit the import.
“I don’t think (Moonee) Valley particularly suited him, he sort of was caught wide and to me, didn’t look comfortable,” admitted Lovett.
“But I wasn’t disappointed in the run, I think we’ll learn a lot more about him, back to Flemington in the Archer (Stakes).”
While Lovett is excited about the prospects of Sayedaty Sadaty, he did admit that the Gelding may not hit its peak until Autumn next year.
“I still feel he’s a horse that might be six to 12 months away himself, like the Autumn next year might be where he really reaches his mark,” revealed Lovett.
“He’s an exciting horse, I mean you remember he ran third at Goodwood behind Jan Brueghel, and he went on to win Group 1’s after that.
“Class as you say carries you a long way and he’s certainly got loads of that.”
The Melbourne Cup will be run on November 4 this year while the Caulfield Cup lands on October 18.
