"11/10 peach": Pride Of Jenni remarkably wins return race
Pride Of Jenni has taken out the Group 2 Feehan Stakes (1600m) at Moonee Valley, winning on her first run back since May.
In 2024, Pride Of Jenni was retired after the horse bled from both nostrils following her underwhelming Group 1 Champions Mile run.
Since then, the fan favourite has unretired and now she has won her second race since the Champions Mile incident.
The eight-year-old mare was the second favourite in the Feehan, behind four-year-old phenom Treasurethe Moment.
The Ciaron Maher trained bay did what she does best – hit the lead early, put a gap on her opposition and finish the race strong.
The incredible first-up return victory left Miles Pfitzner in awe at how the mare was able to win back-to-back Feehan Stakes.
“Pride Of Jenni left alone in front, that’s another Group 2 win for the mare,” Pfitzner told RSN’s Friday Raceday.
“She goes back-to-back in the Feehan.
“Treasurethe Moment was just asked a little bit too much.”
Mick Gannon chimed in and rated Pride Of Jenni’s ride as beyond elite, to which Miles Pfitzner agreed.
“That was an absolute 11/10 peach,” Gannon said.
“That’s what she does!” Pfitzner responded.
“If she gets 4 or 5 lengths in front and gets it her own way, she’s hard to run down.
“That’s exactly what happened.”
Despite the amazing victory, Gannon did excuse Treasurethe Moment’s loss.
The four-year-old recently experienced a mild case of colic, meaning she missed her run in the Makybe Diva Stakes two weeks ago.
Gannon believes if Treasurethe Moment ran in that race then she would’ve had the extra fitness to knock Pride Of Jenni off.
“If Treasurethe Moment runs what she did first-up, she picks up Pride Of Jenni and puts her away,” Gannon said.
“She had a setback and she was probably half a run short.”
