Champion jockey Damian Lane is making the trip down Caulfield this Saturday for his first Group 1 ride in Melbourne, taking on the 1400m Memsie Stakes with Treasurethe Moment.
Lane admits he is quite excited about the prospects of the four-year-old who has remarkably won her last eight starts.
“Looking forward to the first Group 1 in Melbourne this weekend,” Lane told SENTrack’s Giddy Up.
“My spring is looking positive, at this stage I’d say Treasurethe Moment is the flag bearer, she’s running Saturday (in the Memsie Stakes), she seems to be going well.
“She has to take a step up to open age, Weight-For-Age obviously, but she seems in good order, so she’s gonna get her chance.”
The 39-time Group 1 winning jockey was asked if Treasurethe Moment can win the Memsie Stakes first-up.
Lane was confident in his response.
“She’s gonna be a great chance,” Lane exclaimed.
“Like I said you’re just not really sure coming out of three-year-old company into the open, playing with the big boys and girls.
“But what I can say is that she’s really fresh, she’s well, she’s very sharp.”
Lane even admitted that he was shocked out how well Treasurethe Moment has prepared, given she’s coming off a preparation which delivered both the VRC and ATC Oaks.
“I was quite surprised actually at how sharp she’s come back,” Lane said.
“A filly coming off a two-Oaks (Stakes) preparation, you would be definitely forgiving her for coming back a little more dour.
“But she’s actually gone the other way.
“She’s definitely sharpened up and her trails have been great.
“I think that the 1400m is gonna be no problem with how sharp she’s been.
“She gets her chance to compete well, and (I’m) very much excited and looking forward to seeing where she fits in.”
