Who would you want coaching your club?
SEN SAβs Michelangelo Rucci and Kym Dillon have ranked their top 10 coaches based on who they would want coaching their club if they were on the board.
βWeβre not looking at the current coaches and ranking them on their achievements,β Dillon said on SEN SAβs The Run Home.
βWeβre saying who we would like to coach our team if it was our hard-earned money.β
See their top 10s below:
Rucciβs 10
10 - Alastair Clarkson (North Melbourne)
Dillon: βClearly you donβt think heβs at his best then?β
Rucci: βThere are nine I would have ahead of him for my club.
βHeβs proven and heβs got the record. The Alastair Clarkson name sells itself.β
9 - Sam Mitchell (Hawthorn)
βNew era, new ideas, new edge.β
8 - Chris Fagan (Brisbane)
βAs a good manager of people.β
7 - Ross Lyon (St Kilda)
βSolid tactically but not everything I would want and thatβs why heβs on the lower end of the list.β
6 - Adam Kingsley (GWS)
βIβve had high regard for Adam for some time.β
5 - Ken Hinkley (Port Adelaide)
βIf you want to get value out of everything youβve got in your football program then itβs Ken Hinkley.β
4 - Damien Hardwick (Gold Coast)
3 - Luke Beveridge (Western Bulldogs)
βHeβs a genuine person being a genuine coach.β
2 - Craig McRae (Collingwood)
βEverything he has done, not just as an AFL coach, but through his whole record tells you he knows how to get the best out of his players but also making sure they enjoy their footy.
βI think that is really important. Heβs also pretty tough and demanding of how they play.β
1 - Chris Scott (Geelong)
Dillonβs 10
10 - Simon Goodwin (Melbourne)
βHeβs got a creative football brain, heβs a premiership coach and tactically he is very good even though they canβt get their forward setup right.β
9 - Ross Lyon (St Kilda)
βHeβs scary and youβre going to get a lot of publicity. He has performed well, heβs got two sides to Grand Finals.β
8 - Ken Hinkley (Port Adelaide)
βSolid performer, you know what youβre going to get. Heβs a good football man, and I think his record speaks for itself.β
7 - Alastair Clarkson (North Melbourne)
βObviously this is based on what heβs done in the past. I think the wheel is starting to turn at North and Iβm a great believer that you donβt lose your skillset overnight.β
6 - Matthew Nicks (Adelaide)
βIβve based it on the fact that he stayed composed over five years during a rebuild when he was under a lot of pressure.
βIt is game style that is really big for me and I think they are good to watch and play an attacking brand of footy.β
5 - Damien Hardwick (Gold Coast)
βItβs self-explanatory. His record is proven, heβs young and he has the energy.β
4 - Chris Fagan (Brisbane)
βI think people judge him harshly. I also look at it as if I were a player still. Heβs a beautiful man-manager, heβs respectful.
βThe rapport and relationships he has with his players, and his record, because they came from nothing. Heβs created a good environment.β
3 - Luke Beveridge (Western Bulldogs)
βI love their style of football. Thereβs ups and downs (under Bevo) but that happens everywhere.β
2 - Chris Scott (Geelong)
βSpeaks for itself really. Heβs a genius.
βBloody frustrating at times for people in the media, but a genius when it comes to coaching.β
1 - Craig McRae (Collingwood)
βThe main reason with Craig McRae is I love the way they play. He has changed the game in terms of having attacking football, and other clubs have had to step up and emulate what they do.β
