Hawks could face tricky decision over when to move into new $113 million Dingley facility
HAWTHORN could face a tricky decision over when to move into its $113 million Kennedy Community Centre.
The Hawks expect the state-of-the-art facility, being built 40 minutes outside Melbourne in Dingley, to be completed between by September or October.
A recent fly-over video shows construction rapidly progressing on a huge main building and large pavilion, while two ovals are almost ready to train on.
The Hawks have discussed the timing of its completion given the chance it could coincide with an appearance in another finals series.
An in-season move has not been ruled out as the club weighs up the potential disruption late in the campaign against gaining access to a cutting-edge new facility.
High-performance manager Peter Burge recently told the Hawks Insiders podcast he doubted the facility would be ready before the end of the 2025 season, but said even if it was that his preference was to keep the players at Waverley Park.
“My feeling is it really depends how you’re going during the year. If you’re in a position to play finals I would suggest keeping things as normal,” Burge said.
“But others may disagree and say, ‘Nah this will give us another boost’. There’s some logistical things that would need to happen there.
“But it’s not an option for us anyway by the sounds of things.”
Hawthorn, who open their campaign with a practice match against Geelong today, face Sydney in Opening Round on March 7.
