“Gutted”: Jamal Fogarty breaks silence over move to Sea Eagles

Jamal Fogarty has broken his silence over his move to the Sea Eagles, revealing he’s “gutted” to be leaving the Raiders but couldn’t turn down Manly’s larger offer.
The Canberra halfback has played 62 games in the nation’s capital since joining the club in 2022, becoming an integral part of the club’s strong form to start 2025.
Fogarty has signed a three-year deal worth $2 million to join the Sea Eagles in 2026, an offer which blew that of the Raiders out of the water, as the Northern Beaches club found their replacement for outgoing captain Daly Cherry-Evans.
Speaking to Pete Badel, Fogarty said he would be sad to leave Canberra at the end of the season.
“I’m pretty gutted to be leaving,” Fogarty admitted.
“I’ve got great relationships with coaches and players here and we (wife Kahlia and their children) love how slow and laid back it is in Canberra.
“I’m excited and grateful for the opportunity that Manly have given me for the next three years.
“It’s great the deal is all sorted and we can move on with our season.
“Manly can wait until 2026. I’m completely focused and committed on the Raiders and the great start to the season we’ve had as a team.”
Speaking on SEN’s The Captain’s Run, Denan Kemp said Fogarty may suit Manly coach Anthony Seibold’s play style more than that of Cherry-Evans.
“He's a very different player to DCE, however, he's got a long boot and Manly relies so heavily on DCE just to be able to… kick us out of trouble,” Kemp said.
“Now, granted… I still think without DCE they're probably not a premiership threat… however, who knows. The thing with Fogarty is you could make an argument he suits (Anthony) Seibold more than DCE.
“DCE is very much, I will play what I see in front of me. To my understanding, Seibold is very much…I wouldn't say strict, I would just say structured to a degree.
“So, I wonder if that might help Seibold and Fogarty’s relationship to a degree.”
