'Man of firsts': Titans CEO backs Hannay to bring success to Gold Coast

Gold Coast CEO Steve Mitchell has opened up on the appointment of new coach Josh Hannay as a new era begins at the Titans.
Josh Hannay was announced as the Titans coach for the next three years starting in 2026, with current coach Des Hasler to see out the season.
Hannay leads a new-look football department at the Titans, including SEN’s Scott Sattler who will serve as the new director of football.
Hannay currently serves as assistant coach at the Sharks and Queensland Maroons, where he has worked with Titans’ stars Tino Fa’asuamaleaui, David Fifita, Beau Fermor, amongst others.
Mitchell told SEN 1170 Sportsday that Hannay’s rapport with players and previous appointments make him an ideal coach to bring success to the Gold Coast region.
“It’s exciting news for the club,” Mitchell said.
“I think the really big part about Josh (Hannay) is his career where he's gone into interim roles and then fallen back into an assistant role.
“The communication lines were open which is really encouraging, and we were fortunate with Josh, he's wanted to come to the Coast for a number of years, and he sees that playing group and the player roster and a large chunk of that group he's worked with and he’s a man of firsts.
“He said ‘I want the opportunity to come up there and be successful on the Gold Coast and unlock what that means for the region’.
“That's something we still haven't delivered on, something we've got a responsibility to do, but he's highly motivated by that and we need to build an environment around him that's going to support him and help him unlock that.
“But I think his rapport with the playing group, his expectation of success, his delivery standards and what he’s actually crafted over the last decade… he’s done his apprenticeship.
“We are really excited about having him join us.”
The Titans currently sit in last with two rounds remaining, two points behind the Newcastle Knights.
The Gold Coast play the Dolphins this week, before taking on the Wests Tigers in what will be Des Hasler and veteran Kieran Foran’s final matches.
