David Gately has provided his best bets for Flemington on Champions Stakes Day.
See Gator's Game Plan below:
BET OF THE DAY (Melbourne)
FLEMINGTON - Race 2 No.2 - SABAJ - Back and hopelessly held-up until last 100m in Silver Eagle then flew! Quickly to 1600m and drawn out but has better wins in him than BM84 grade!
BET OF THE DAY (Sydney)
ROSEHILL - Race 10 No.9 - FROSTY GIRL - Strong winning form behind her from first prep. Resumed with strong win WFM beating Pictor clearly into 3rd. She had beaten Panova (won Carbine Club) and ran very well Flem Tuesday in deep race.
BEST VALUE BET OF THE DAY
FLEMINGTON - Race 9 No.11 - SWEETHEARTED - Loomed to win fresh but peaked late. Fitter now. Very good 3rd to Manolo Bling 2nd-up last prep Bendigo in slick time. Drawn to swoop and looks some value $9 ??
Group 1 analysis
Race 6 - G1 VRC Sprint - WFA - 1200m
6 - JOLIESTAR - Back/ wide (no cover mostly) before getting the back of Jimmysstar and running home hard to just miss 3rd. He’s since franked the form with a brilliant win. This girl is well and truly proven up straight as excellent G1 Newmarket Hcp winner.
10 - TENTYRIS - Just exploded through and, away in G1 Coolmore on Saturday, yes it was a fast day but 1.8-1 is sensational and some 6L faster than handy older sprinters on the day. Will 3yo measure up? Well, Tempted just ran 3rd in an Everest beating home Jimmysstar and Joliestar. Big yes!
1 - GIGA KICK - Great return win. He might be back !? Did just miss in 2024 Everest to be fair and well and truly proven straight.
7 - MAGIC TIME - Set impossible task in Everest when back and wide. She actually ran really well for mine… Have her length of so off Joliestar here up straight but clearly in the mix.
5 - TROPICUS - Gave all latest when beating all-bar Giga Kick. Trifecta player.
Race 7 - G1 Champions Mile - WFA - 1600m
2 - CEOLWULF - He was outstanding fresh on wet Vs Via Sistina and Co. then solid next few but not at that level. Blinkers went on latest and he was cruising in behind them before winning King George easily beating many of these.
9 - TREASURETHE MOMENT - Chased Pride Of Jenni (thrashed 3rd) MV when 2nd-up and month between runs off colic attack. Solid next time. Gave lovely kick in Cox Plate and looked home but just no match Via Sistina/ Buckaroo (forgive Melb Cup flop with internal bleed). Back to 1600m no negative.
7 - PRIDE OF JENNI - Don’t think she was ridden to her strengths in that King George but let run (midway) here last week she was back to her brilliant best. Did beat Treasurethe Moment in Feehan as referenced. Hard to catch!
1 - MR BRIGHTSIDE - What a bulldog! Looked gone in King George when Ceowulf went by but he kept fighting and actually beat-off everything else for 2nd. What a horse.
8 - STEFI MAGNETICA - Well backed win (well) latest when 2nd-up and had gap between runs. Ran very well this race last year when 1.2L off Mr Brightside/ Antino/ Fangirl.
Race 8 - G1 TAB Champions Stks - WFA - 2000m
10 - VIA SISTINA - Peeled wide a fair way from home in that Cox Plate and, for mine, 2nd and 3rd had softer runs yet she refused to be beaten! Less depth here if anything. One to beat!
1 - TOM KITTEN - Ran very well in King George when on heels of Ceowulf and Co. Beat home Pride Of Jenni. Gets to 2000m and with fresh legs here might be the danger ??
6 - PIER - Given great ride in King George and measured right up just missing Mr Brightside for 2nd and beating home Tom Kitten. He too has some fresh legs this prep.
11 - BENAGIL - Lovely return. Too keen last week. When 3rd-up last prep she gave Treasurethe Moment a scare…
2 - LIGHT INFANTRY MAN - Gave sight in Cox Plate and his Aust Cup win here in Autumn was very, very good.
4 - ATTRITION - Was right with Light Infantry Man in Cox Plate and in trifecta mix.
