Freo’s Wagner: Jackson unsure where trade rumours started

Corey Wagner says Fremantle teammate Luke Jackson has no idea where the recent trade rumours have come from.
Trade talk is swirling around Jackson who is being heavily linked with a sensational move back to Melbourne at season’s end.
The West Australian reported earlier this week that the 2021 premiership player and Rising Star will request a trade to the Demons despite being contracted with Freo until 2029.
But according to Wagner, who also spent a year with Jackson at the Dees in 2020, the 23-year-old is unaware of the genesis of such speculation.
“I’m really close with Luke and it’s never even seemed to be a thing,” Wagner said on SEN WA Breakfast.
“He seems happy and content. He loves the club.
“It just doesn’t seem right the way that it has come out in the media. We’re not distracted at all. He loves us, he loves being here.
“I wouldn’t take anything out of it.”
Asked if he had ever raised it with Jackson one on one, Wagner insists he does speak to his close mate about such matters.
“Before training me and him usually go and stretch for an hour, so we bring up these things,” Wagner added.
“He’s like, ‘Nup, I don’t know where they come from. I don’t know who and how they get out’.
“That’s what I’m getting and I’m taking him for his word.”
It remains too be seen if Jackson actually does want to up and leave Freo after signing a seven-year deal when he left the Dees in late 2022.
In the meantime, Wagner, Jackson and the 4-5 Dockers will look to arrest a two-game losing streak when they meet the Giants at ENGIE Stadium on Saturday evening.
The Dockers, who have lost their last two meetings at the venue, need a win to keep in touch with the top eight.
