Fillies In Charge chase Birchip glory with Soap And Bubbles
#GIRLPOWER – that’s the theme to remember leading into Sunday’s Birchip meeting according to popular trainer Lisa Pitt.
Pitt will head to the provincial venue to contest the inaugural Running of the Bulls with talented pacer Soap And Bubbles.
The fact Pitt is a successful horsewoman and Soap And Bubbles is a mare is only part of the hashtag equation.
Soap And Bubble’s berth in the $125,000 event was made available via the “Fillies in charge” syndicate, which as you can guess, consists of females.
Topping off the #GIRLPOWER notion – and perhaps proving to be the key omen – Sunday is International Women’s Day!
“We’re so excited our girl Bubbles will be racing for the awesome team at Fillies in Charge,” Pitt said. “I haven’t met any of them, but will on the day, which is exciting in itself.
“With a bit of luck we will all be standing together in the winners’ circle.
“We can’t thank all the ladies behind the syndicate enough for choosing us to share what is going to be such an awesome day with them.”
To be driven by Pitt’s husband Mark, Soap And Bubbles will begin from barrier four over 2150 metres.
“The draw is not ideal, but as Gavin Lang used to say ‘it’s only a starting position, even though she is kind of in the middle of nowhere from four,” Pitt said. “I will let Mark decide on the tactics, then criticise him if she gets beaten!
“She was first-up for four months a couple of weeks ago, so she needed the run, but has come through it well and tightened right up for Sunday.
“We’re pretty happy with her and are now hoping for the best in what is a pretty even field.”
