Ex-Blues boss arranges Judd-TDK meeting in big free agency bid
THE fight for Tom De Koning’s signature has seen former Carlton president Mark LoGiudice organise for Chris Judd to meet with the out-of-contract ruckman.
De Koning has been offered a life-changing $12 million contract by St Kilda in a deal that equates to around $1.7 million a season.
Carlton’s tight salary cap means there is as much as a $4 million difference between the two offers.
But as De Koning wrestles with the career-defining and life-changing decision, the Saints-Blues battle has moved away from the contract table.
While De Koning has met with coach Ross Lyon and off-field powerbrokers connected to the Saints over how the player can further set himself up for life, sources said LoGiudice believed not enough had been done in this regard at the Blues.
Dual Brownlow medallist Judd was believed to be one of a number of Carlton people sought to sit down with De Koning in an attempt to convince him he should stay at Ikon Park.
Judd chose Carlton as his destination when he requested a trade out of West Coast in 2007.
The Blues are known to have one of the most powerful and connected fanbases in the league.
